Overview of H&Ps EPA Method TO-15 Program

H&P Mobile GeoChemistry, Inc. of Carlsbad, CA is a nationally recognized lab specializing in environmental analytical chemistry. As opposed to our larger cousins, we at H&P are dedicated to the special field of providing analytical chemical analysis in a field or rapid turnaround setting.
Our areas of specialization include using Gas Chromatography(GC) and GC/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) MASSLAB ® techniques.
Our most recent acquisition has been instrumentation to perform EPA Methods TO-15 and TO-14A. We are applying these new
techniques primarily to the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in soil vapor survey programs, but are also available for
many other types of projects where low level analysis of organic compounds is needed.

Among the areas of research and remediation our EPA Method TO-15 program supports are vapor intrusion, site assessment, remediation, real estate transfer and groundwater protection. We follow the protocols of the U.S.E.P.A, California Region 9, California DTSC and other regulating agency. San Diego (SAM) Guidelines and many others utilizing EPA Method 8260B and EPA Method TO-15. For a discussion on the relative differences between EPA Method 8260B and EPA Method TO-15, see TO-15 or not TO-15
H&P has been performing EPA Methods in a field or rapid turnaround setting for sixteen years and has gained a reputation for being able to "get the job done". Our ability to mobilize to our client sites and operate our instruments to turn out high quality real time data is our greatest asset. Our chemists are expert in many types of analyses, although we maintain a relatively short list of methods in order to concentrate on the most environmentally necessary and those from which our clients can gain the most advantage for on-site analysis. Although not an exhaustive list, we specialize in the analysis of fuel hydrocarbons as gasoline, diesel, oil, mineral spirits, bunker fuel, jet fuel etc. and the individual compounds of concern. Specific target compounds for analysis include benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, fuel aromatics, fuel oxygenates (MTBE, ETBE, TAME, TBA, DIPE) and chlorinated solvents (PCE, TCE and their breakdown products such as vinyl chloride, 1,1-DCE and others). Besides being experienced chemists, geologists or environmental scientists, our field staff members are available as consultants on every project that we perform.
As mentioned above we have recently acquired two new GC/MS sytems. These are Agilent Technologies (formerly Hewlett-Packard) model 6850 Gas Chromatograph/5973N Mass Spectrometers. We have coupled these to the latest equipment available for ambient air analysis (EPA Method TO-15) (Entech Instruments Inc., Simi Valley, CA) we have equipped the chemists in our mobile and fixed based laboratories with these brand new state-of-the-art instruments, and in many cases made specific proprietary modifications in order to achieve low detection limits while maintaining the highest quality data for our soil vapor surveys and other projects. Whereas many mobile lab companies utilize older, lower priced analytical instrumentation (available on the net, see http://www.labx.com), H&P Mobile GeoChemistry, Inc. prides itself in keeping our instrumentation current, using the latest available from each manufacturer of our choice. This is the same quality as found in the finest fixed base facilities.
